Michaela Cisarikova, born in Slovakia, is a UK based choreographer, dancer, movement director and the Artistic Director of MCDC – Michaela Cisarikova Dance Company - which she founded in 2014.

 

In 2019, Michaela worked as Assistant Choreographer for Andrea Walker’s “HOME”: a new production commissioned by The Joffrey Ballet in Chicago.

 

She has become a prominent voice on the UK dance scene, and is now an associate artist of Walker’s 201 Dance Company.  Michaela’s ‘aLove Story’ was the first ever site-specific work at Breakin’ Convention, Sadler’s Wells in 2017 and since then Michaela has produced indoor & outdoor works, screen dance and theatre work across the UK, Europe, Chicago and Kenya.

 

Michaela's experimental style fuses elements of contemporary dance, physical theatre and Hip Hop, using collaboration to bring new visuals and an aesthetic essence to her work. Her vision is to make people excited in dance in different situations like 

Michaela always encourages dancers to share their individual techniques & practices to facilitate a collaborative and versatile creative process. where she uses visuals and easily identified stimulus for the audience to become connected or attracted to her work.

 

‘Paranoid About Our Origins’ is Michaela’s most recent outdoor work where dancers from other dimensions showcase how to party in 3031, commissioned by the Jim Jam Arts for an outdoor art installation created by Jyll Bradley as part of the Folkestone Living Advent Calendar in December 2019. Michaela is currently in preparation to take her first full-length show ‘I Love Myself, Do You?’ across the UK and Europe after a successful Slovak rural tour and showcase at Abundance International Dance Festival. 

After finishing her first class BA (HONS) degree in Dance Education at Canterubry Christ Church University she went on to achieve the Jasmin Vardimon PGCertificate in physical theatre; where she discovered the combination of character, narrative and physical theatre methods which she is implementing in her work. 

In 2015 Michaela was selected to join the third cohort of East London Dance’s acclaimed future innovators programme ‘The Fi.ELD’ – a training programme for dance artists in project management and producing. Michaela had the opportunity to pitch, produce, manage, and plan her own platform called "The One Move Show Choreographic Challenge" which was first time trailed at Stratford Circus.

Michaela has been selected to participate in the programme, WOMXN IN HIP HOP 2020 created and curated by Artists4artists where she is planning on continuing to identify and expand on her hip hop influences in her work.
