At MCDC, we challenge our performers’ and our audiences’ creativity with bold visual works that push the boundaries of hip-hop and contemporary dance styles. We often collaborate with striking costume and set design, finding innovative ways to invite the audience to take part in our artistry. We are passionate about taking our work to unusual places, bringing our upbeat and quirky outdoor performances to audiences who are new to urban dance.

We are now looking for 4 dance artists for the R&D phase of our new show, In Clouds. We want dancers with a good awareness of their personal artistry and a willingness to collaborate in the creative process. We are looking for:

  • A strong foundation in hip hop and/or contemporary dance with an ability to push the limits of the styles and explore the possibilities of how they can be blended

  • Highly skilled dancers with a unique movement or artistic flair and a strong sense of self

  • Good ability to improvise/freestyle and interact with the world around them

  • Proactive and adaptable dancers who are reliable team members with a strong work ethic in the studio and a positive energy

  • Experience or interest in performing in a range of outdoor settings

You will need to have availability for the following, exact dates TBC:

Audition — Weds 18th October

Call back — Weds 25th October

R&D: 2 weeks across November, December in Folkestone

Public performance 15th of December in Folkestone

1 week development in January TBC

Applications:

We are particularly looking to hear from Kent based dancers, so if you feel you are not an exact match for the current project or are not available for all the dates, please get in touch anyway, we would love to get to know you! Please also apply if you have worked with us before or have applied for previous call outs.

We know that Kent’s transport links aren’t great and being a freelance dance artist outside of London can be hard, so we have 5 bursaries available for Kent-based dancers to support the costs of transport links to auditions.

We want to see:

1 min of you freestyling. We want to see how you move in your unique movement language and express yourself through your strongest styles, not another choreographer’s work!

FEE: ITC rates                                                                                          Deadline: 1st of October 2023
